Essential oils from many plant families have now been demonstrated to have antiviral properties. Interestingly, different plant families exhibit varying degrees of effectiveness depending on the virus strain. This is due to the particular molecular structures found in each type of oil, which penetrate physical entities to varying degrees (different tissues, cell walls, mucous membranes, etc). The effect on each virus strain depends also on the virus structure (enveloped, non-enveloped, molecular symmetry, etc.)

Bigger balconies may also serve as a seating area - a perfect place to relax after a day at work. just remember to use light furniture as moving it around might be a backbreaking task in bad weather.
Even if your apartment doesn’t boast an extended balcony, theres nothing to worry about. When it comes to gardens, size doesn’t really seem to matter and even the smallest square might support a mini-kitchen garden.

You might grow everything from tomatoes, cucumbers, and eggplant to oranges, all in pots. Admittedly, this is a bit more challenging than having just a few ferns and flowers. If you’re not willing to work that hard for fresh fruit and vegetables, ruminate on growing your own herb garden. Its the best option. Herbs can be grown in planters, needing just water and sunlight.

How Garlic Can Fight - and Cure - Ear Infections

Many people today know that garlic has a large number of health and wellness benefits. Most of these all the people however, tend to take garlic in pill or capsule form, and without realizing it: They could be losing out on many of the additional benefits this herb provides.

I discovered the true power of fresh garlic a little over 15 many years ago. My oldest son had chronic ear infections starting from a very young age, and he was on prescription antibiotics almost constantly. He ended up having drainage tubes surgically placed in his ears about 5 or 6 times.

I of course, got very frustrated with the constant medications and surgeries. They just werent doing the trick and my son was losing his hearing too. So I started investigating alternative medicine options. At the instant I figured I had to try something, so even though some things sounded really weird, I was willing to at least give it a whirl.

Not long after starting this search for alternative remedies, I happened upon some understanding about using garlic to kill ear infections. Now this is the weird part, but stick with me for a minute here: It really does work.

How to utilize fresh Garlic to kill ear infection pain within about 15 minutes, and clear up the infection completely in about 48 hours:

1. Cut a small tube, or plug shape piece of fresh garlic bulb.
2. Wrap that piece in tissue.
3. Place the wrapped garlic into the ear canal. Dont shove it down in there deeply, you just want it resting in the opening like an ear plug.

Its best to do this right before bed, and leave the garlic in the ear all night. It will likely fall out sometime during the night, but it should stay in there for at least a few hours. And thats plenty long enough.

As I said, within about 15 minutes or less, the pain of the ear infection will be greatly reduced - if not gone completely. So you or your child will be able to sleep easier during the night.

And in my knowledge the infection itself is completely gone within 24-48 hours. Honestly.

I tried this with my oldest son back when he was having so many ear problems, and I was simply astounded at how well it worked. And even better: His infections stayed gone much longer with this remedy than they did when he was grasping the prescription antibiotics.

Ive of course discovered many other alternative remedies in that time. For instance: If you do not have garlic on hand, you can use onion to treat ear infections too. Just cut off a small piece of fresh onion and utilize it like the garlic above, or put a few drops of the fresh cut onion juice in the ear.

My love affair with Garlic was just the initial of a 15 year relationship and learning experience. Because it was so successful, I began earnestly learning about a variety of other herbal remedies and homeopathic techniques. And Ive used them almost exclusively - and quite successfully - on all 4 of my children since.

So if you have a child up all night in pain from an ear infection, try a sliver of Garlic. You will probably be just as amazed and thankful as I was :)

Pepper Mill

Adding herbs to a dish while it is being cooked will result in the flavor becoming more deeply ingrained in the food. Its the same principle as with herbal infusions: heat releases the character of the herb. If you want to really get the herbal aroma and taste into your meal, add the herb early on in the cooking process.

You might even create a bouquet garni by tying up a bunch of herbs into a piece of cheesecloth; drop it into soups and stews and remove the whole bundle from the pot when you’re about to serve. If you just want a hint of the flavor, on the other hand, sprinkle on fresh ground dried herbs or scatter chopped fresh herbs on after your cooking is done.

For example, you could add chopped chives to a baked potato, parsley to a plate of chicken and rice, or cayenne pepper to a dish or chili. Remember, though, that dried herbs are more concentrated and pungent than fresh herbs. If you choose to make use of dried herbs, utilize about a quarter less than you would if you we are using fresh.
